New average safety cameras installed on the N3 in Cavan will be operational from tomorrow. The cameras have been put in place on the N3 Cavan between Kilduff in the north and Billis in the south. Average Safety Cameras are intended to change driver behaviour, reducing average speed of road users and the number of collisions that occur.
Gardaí say the locations form part of a suite of measures already introduced to improve road safety. The exact coordinates of the cameras are available on garda.ie. The cameras will be in operation from 12 noon tomorrow.
Those caught speeding face a 160 euro fine and three penalty points.
Assistant Garda Commissioner Paula Hilman says enforcement is crucial: "These cameras are going live on roads where we've seen a number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads," Assistant Commissioner Hilman said, "This will be followed up by another average speed camera on the N2 later this year and will go live in the new year."
