The N2 between Castleblayney and Carrickmacross has reopened this evening following a fatal road traffic collision this morning.
The collision which took place shortly after 6am marks the first fatality to occur on Monaghan roads so far this year. A man in his 20s lost his life in the fatal two vehicle collision involving a car and van at Moneygorbet, Castleblayney.
A man in his 20s who was a passenger was injured and has been removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the male driver of the van, aged in this 50s, was removed from the scene to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda with non life threatening injuries.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
