"The 'My Open Library' service is invaluable for those living in rural communities."
That's according to Deirdriu McQuaid, who is the Senior Executive Librarian at Monaghan County Council.
Her comments come following today's announcement of almost €109,000 for enhancements at the library facilities in Carrickmacross and Clones.
Speaking on today's Wider View, Deirdriu revealed that the service in Carrickmacross was introduced back in 2019, but despite a "successful uptake" it was stopped due to Covid before making its way slowly back again.
According to Deirdriu, between 250 and 260 customers joined up to avail of the service on a regular basis at the beginning, and on one occasion a number of people even used the facility on Christmas Day.
She says 'My Open Library' is about giving people a better opportunity to access library services outside of demand hours, 365 days a year, from 8am to 10pm.
The local librarian believes the new funding will go a long way in "upgrading" the existing service in Carrickmacross and will enhance the 'My Open Library' in Clones which she hopes will be opened very soon:
