Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman's body in Co. Cavan.
The body was found at a domestic residence in a rural area near Ballyconnell last night.
A woman aged in her 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene and has since been conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A man aged in his 60s was conveyed to Cavan General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
A man in his 30s was arrested at a separate location in connection to the incident, and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda Station in the Co. Cavan area.
The investigation is being led from an incident room at Cavan Garda Station, and a Senior Investigating Officer and Family Liaison Officer will be appointed in due course.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or those with information to contact Cavan Garda Station on (049) 436 8800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station. Anyone who traveled in the area of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell last night between 8:30pm and 9:30pm is asked to provide any available camera footage, including dash-cam recordings.
