A murder investigation is continuing this morning into the death of a woman in a fire in Derry.
It broke out at a flat in the city in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The blaze was sparked in a ground floor flat on Harvey Street at around 4.15am yesterday and crews from the North's Fire and Rescue Service and Ambulance Service rushed to the scene.
The woman who's believed to be aged in her 40s to mid-60s was found in the bedroom of the flat and was pronounced dead.
She suffered an horrific attack and sustained multiple injuries.
Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation and a post mortem examination will be carried out.
Police say they know this brutal murder has caused great concern, but they're working at full pace to find out what happened and catch those responsible for this heinous and evil crime.
They say there will be an increase in officer presence in the city in the coming hours and days and are appealing for information.
