"The people of Mullahoran have been forgotten about." That's according to Pauline, who has been left without electricity since 5am on Monday morning following Storm Debi. Pauline said that her frustrations are not aimed at ESB workers who are "doing their best" but instead over the false restoration times which are being issued by ESB.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Cavan woman believes that the power check system needs to be reviewed, as false restoration times have left Pauline with no other option but to empty out the contents of both her fridge and freezer. Pauline said that if ESB were "truthful" at an earlier stage, she could have made other arrangements. But instead, she has been forced to "throw out food" during a cost of living crisis.
"Don't give false hope if you're not working on it and if you don't know when it will be restored then don't give a person a time, instead ask them to make other arrangements," explained Pauline. "We could of saved our freezer full of food had they of been truthful. Storms and power cuts will happen, but don't tell people lies. Don't give out times and then ten minutes before the restoration time is due move it on. Our restoration time was moved from 10pm last night until 6pm this evening and personally at this stage , I have absolutely no belief that we will have power come 6pm this evening. If this were in Dublin, there would be no households left without power, but because we're in the back end beyond as they consider Mullahoran to be in, we're forgotten about."
