Mullagh athlete can be incredibly proud says Paralympic commentator

The local athlete achieved 3 lifetime best lifts, lifting 133kg, just 6kg behind the gold medal.

Mullagh's Britney Arendse can proudly call herself one of the best in the world.

That's the view of Paralympic Commentator, Will Downing, after the Cavan woman finished 4th in the Para-Powerlifting final in Paris.

The local athlete achieved 3 lifetime best lifts, lifting 133kg, just 6kg behind the gold medal. She arrived home to a heroes welcome in Mullagh yesterday, and it's understood an official homecoming for her is due to take place next weekend Speaking on Sportsbeat with Kevin McDermott, Paralympic commentator Will Downing says Britney can be incredibly proud of her performance.

"Britney can very, very comfortably call herself the next best in the world outside of the three medalists. For somebody from a nice little town like Mullagh to be the fourth best in the world at anything is very nice indeed. Of course, from a local level, you have a few others who were a few notches up in other sports but she was fantastic on Saturday. She literally could not have done any more than what she did".
