A new MRI scanner is not in the pipeline for Monaghan hospital according to the Minister for Health. The statement was made in response to a parliamentary question by local TD Matt Carthy. Deputy Carthy asked if the Minister would commission an appraisal of the demand for CT and MRI scanners at Monaghan Hospital. Minister Donnelly responded by saying that the budget for Monaghan hospital has increased by 27% since 2021, with staffing levels up 70% since 2020.
Cavan and Monaghan Hospitals have a total of two operating CT scanners and one MRI scanner, with Minister Donnelly saying that a requirement for an additional MRI in Monaghan has not been highlighted. As well as this, no case for additional capacity has been submitted by the management of Cavan & Monaghan Hospital.
