Motorists have been urged to be careful when making essential journeys this morning due to icy patches on roads across the region.
GARDAI in the Shannonside Northern Sound region have said that driving conditions remain treacherous.
Lots of secondary roads have not been gritted and extreme caution is needed.
According to AA Roadwatch, Roads in Monaghan are extremely icy and gardai in Carrick on Shannon have reported black ice on some routes around the town.
Temperatures are to remain low with a maximum temperature of 5 degrees during the day and dropping back to -2 tonight.
