Motorists across Cavan and Monaghan are being reminded to prepare themselves for increased penalties for driving offences.
Junior Minister for Transport Hildegarde Naughton announced last week that fines for speeding, mobile phone use and not wearing a seatbelt are going to double.
The fine for speeding now goes from 80 euro, to 160 euro.
Using a mobile phone while driving, or not wearing a seatbelt, now brings a fine of 120 euro.
It's hoped the increases will deter people from breaking the law while behind the wheel.
Road Safety Officer for Monaghan County Council Adrian O'Sullivan said further measures are also being considered.
