A motorist in Monaghan received a fixed payment notice after several children were found sitting in the boot area of the car.
On Tuesday, Monaghan Roads Policing Unit were conducting a number of multi-agency checkpoints, alongside the Road Safety Authority, Food Safety Authority and Monaghan County Council's Environment Section.
A number of detections were made, one of which included a family that was stopped while travelling on their holidays in a jeep.
The luggage was on the rear seat and four children were sitting in the boot area and not wearing seatbelts.
They were stopped until a second vehicle arrived in order for everybody to continue the journey safely.
Local gardaí have reminded motorists to refrain from taking unnecessary risks on the roads, and to always make sure that everyone travelling is wearing a seatbelt.
