Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit conducted mandatory intoxicant testing checkpoints in the Bailieborough and Kingscourt areas over the weekend. As a result of the operation, one motorist was stopped for an insurance check and a roadside drug test was positive for both cocaine and cannabis.
This driver was arrested and further samples were taken at Bailieborough Garda Station. The car was also detained for no insurance. A further Roads Policing Unit detected a number of drivers in the Ballyconnell area driving in excess of the 50kmph speed limit. These drivers received Fixed Payment Notices, according to local Gardaí.
