Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit recently detected a motorist driving while under the influence of drugs in Cavan Town. Gardaí stopped the vehicle driving in an erratic manner over the Bank Holiday weekend. After stopping the car it transpired that the driver was driving under the influence of cannabis following a positive oral fluid test. On arrest a blood sample was taken for testing at the Medical Bureau for Road Safety.
This driver now faces a Court appearance. In a statement issued to Northern Sound, Gardaí highlighted that some drivers continue to disregard the warnings and advice and insist on risking their lives and the lives of others on the roads. Gardaí in Cavan have encouraged motorists to "please think road safety" and to never drive while under the influence of drink and drugs.
