Members of a Garda regular unit attached to Monaghan garda Station on proactive crime patrols observed a male in a car which they say, was "acting suspiciously" on the outskirts of the town over the weekend.
With the aid of the mobility device it was soon officers established there was no valid tax on the vehicle.
The driver then failed a roadside drug test, testing positive for cocaine and it was revealed he also does not hold a valid driving licence or insurance. A follow up search of the vehicle revealed a bag of cocaine (pending analysis). The driver was arrested and blood samples were taken for further testing. A Court appearance is now pending.
