A motorist has been arrested for dangerous driving after being clocked at nearly 170 km/h in Co Monaghan.
The incident happened yesterday on the N2.
The driver was arrested, charged, and now has a court date.
Elsewhere, a number of learner drivers who were driving unaccompanied in Monaghan on Saturday past have had their vehicles detained.
Monaghan Roads Policing Unit also detected a number of motorists driving while using a mobile phone.
These motorists were issued with Fixed Payment notices.
Local gardaí are using these incidents to remind motorists to slow down and to never use their phones whole driving.
