One in 10 people in the Republic could call themselves a victim of the Troubles. That's according to new research from the Commission for Victims and Survivors in Northern Ireland.
It found 4 per cent of those living south of the border have been bereaved as a result of conflict in the North, while 7 per cent say their mental health has been affected.
A similar number say they have witnessed a Troubles-related incident.
NI Victims Commissioner Ian Jeffers says supports need to be expanded in the Republic.
"To argue for improved services and enhanced support for victims of the Troubles, what we need to do is understand how many people see themselves or could identify themselves as a victim," he explained.
