A Cavan man has called for more emergency accommodation to be allocated to the homeless and those experiencing domestic violence.
Michael Loughman is the founder of 'Sleep Out Cavan' a charity which provides shelter and clothing to those who are in need.
He says Gardaí have had to act as 'social workers' due to the lack of services across the area.
Mr Loughman added that the closure of Cavan's housing office during weekend hours has left people with no other option but to travel to hostels in Drogheda and Dundalk for emergency accommodation.
He has called for neighbouring counties to offer more services like 'Sleep Out Cavan' in order to reduce the influx of people depending on the local service.
