A Cavan woman living with epilepsy says there needs to be more awareness surrounding the diagnosis.
The Cavan native has been speaking to Northern Sound to mark International Epilepsy Day that takes place today.
Saoirse Fergus says her epilepsy is under control with the help of preventative medication and she is seizure free over 12 months now. She says she can drive her car once she is a year free from having a seizure and once her diagnosis is under control her day to day life isn't. According to Epilepsy Ireland only 35 per cent of the public would know what to do in the event of a seizure. Saoirse says some of the most important things to do if someone has a seizure, is to say calm, time the seizure and make sure the area is safe so that the person doesn't injure themselves.
