More needs to be done for retained fire fighters according to one local councillor.
Cllr Damien Brady brought the issue to the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council.
The Cavan councillor is also a long standing retained fire fighter. He says even though things have improved, its not enough to keep people in the sector or entice others to join.
The Ballyconnell native said that despite promises made last year following an industrial dispute, difficulties still remain for those working in the service locally. Cllr Brady said over the 25 years in the fire service he has never seen morale in Cavan Fire Service as low as it is at the moment. The Sinn Fein Councillor said firefighters risk their lives every single day of the week and we want and deserve better pay and conditions.
