The Three Parishes Macra in Monaghan only re-formed with three members in 2021 with three members but, last weekend the popular group won the title of North West Club of the Year at a national event. Describing it as a "massive achievement for Monaghan", the group say they want to see more members join the various macra groups in the county.
Three parishes, which represents young people aged 17-35 years from Tullycorbet, Clontibret and Doohamlet are also assisting groups in Scotstown, Broomfield and Blayney, organise their Macra into thriving hubs for young local people to meet up and have fun experiences. Three parishes Macra have a monthly meeting to plan their next activities. This week, they have organised a block of driving lessons and the group have entered members into the Queen of the Land and Mr Personality national competitions.
Amy Finn from Three Parishes told Northern Sound the club has grown from 3 members following Covid to 40 today, and encourages everyone to get involved. "We've had go-karting, dance nights, mystery tours, bowling, table quizzes, football - you name it, we've done it," she said, "It's a good age group as well at 17 to 35 years old so it has a good age span for local people who aren't involved in say, football. It's a good local outlet for them."
