Women in Co Monaghan are invited to a meet and greet with local political parties tonight. The event will take place at 7pm in the Iontas Centre in Castleblayney. The event is organised in partnership with the Monaghan Women's Assembly. Sinn Fein councillor Cathy Bennett is also Chairperson of the Monaghan Women's Assembly.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Bennett said that tonight's event is aimed at encouraging more women to take an "active role" in politics. She added that it also offers people the opportunity to meet political representatives who will be standing for local election in five weeks.
"We've asked all political parties to attend tonight's event at 7pm and showcase what you have to offer the general public," explained Cllr Bennett. We've also asked all of the women from across Co Monaghan to come to the event and meet the people who will be standing for election in five weeks time. Over the years we have been trying to promote women and trying to get more women to stand and I'm glad to say that we could have up to eight or ten women standing in the local elections this time so this has been a great achievement for the women's assembly."
