A Smithborough woman has received Ireland's highest academic honour.
Professor Lorraine O'Driscoll was yesterday inducted to the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland's leading body of experts on science and humanities.
The only female of the ten scientists recently elected to the committee, Lorraine joins the exclusive roll of honour that features poets WB Yeats and Seamus Heaney, as well as President Michael D. Higgins.
