A Monaghan woman has declared her candidacy for the upcoming Seanad by-election.
Former MEP and barrister Patricia McKenna, is one of seventeen candidates looking to fill the seat left by Ivana Bacik's election to the Dail.
The Castleshane-native had previously served as a Green Party MEP for Dublin between 1994 and 2004, before resigning from the party in 2009.
In a statement announcing her intentions, Patricia said she's "deeply concerned about the lack of debate and the suppression of alternative views" in the political system, and is running on a platform of encouraging open debate.
