A Monaghan academic has been awarded a prestigious Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship to undertake study on Mamo McDonald.
Dianne McPhelim from Monaghan Town is currently employed as a researcher with Dundalk Institute of Technology.
She recently graduated with a MA in Modern Literature and Writing and has extensive previous experience in the heritage, tourism and community development sector.
She said her work in rural development and heritage in the border region has equipped her with an interest in the untold and forgotten.
Mamo McDonald was a feminist and campaigner who met and married a Clones man whilst working in the Royal Hibernian Bank in Cavan.
The mother of eleven, who is credited as an influence on both Nell McCafferty and Mary Robinson, was ICA National President and founded Age Action.
Dianne's three-year scholarship will allow her to explore and record the life's work of the remarkable Monaghan woman.
