The Monaghan town library building has been listed for sale.
The decision to place the building on the market had been decided by councillors in March, despite opposition from some.
When the nearby Peace Campus is completed, the library service will be relocated to it and the current council-owned building will be left vacant.
Independent Councillor Paudge Connolly had called for the North Road building to be retained by the local authority, and for them to consider repurposing it.
His motion was defeated, with it clarified that listing the building isn't confirmation that it will be sold, but that suitable offers could be considered.
The two-storey site has been valued at €300,000, with the advertisement saying it could lend itself to many uses, subject to planning.
