SpudFest 2024 will take place in Monaghan Town this weekend. The popular event is held in memory of Jason 'Spud' McElvaney who passed away three years ago. Ciara Clerkin is one of the organisers and hopes that Saturday's line-up of events will be "bigger and better" than ever before. Speaking to Northern Sound, Ciara described the late Jason McElvaney as the "life and soul" of every party and someone who was loved by so many. According to Ciara, suicide is something that has unfortunately impacted many families across Co Monaghan and further afield. Ciara believes that this weekend is a celebration of all those who have passed. She added that this weekend will also provide an opportunity for those who are struggling to be aware of the mental health services and supports that are available to them within their own community.
In relation to tomorrow's big event, Ciara says there is something for everyone, with the family fun day taking place in the Harps Complex in Monaghan Town from 1pm - 6pm. The evening part of SpudFest will be in Mc Kenna's Bar Monaghan from 8pm with plenty of musical talent for people to enjoy. According to Ciara, proceeds raised from SpudFest go to local charities that focus on helping people with their mental health and we are so proud to be supporting them. "We believe that is so important that as a community we support people dealing with mental health issues, SpudFest 2024 will be supporting SOLAS, SOSAD and CAMRY," explained Ciara.
