A clinic providing MMR vaccinations is happening in Monaghan today. The HSE is operating the clinics in response to an outbreak of measles in Cavan General Hospital in recent weeks. The Monaghan clinic is operating today from 10 am until 12 noon at the Community Vaccination Centre, St Davnet's Campus in Monaghan Town.
The vaccination clinics are focused on delivering the MMR to to key groups, who may have missed their vaccines in the past. Those eligible are those born in Ireland from 1978 and do not have evidence of two MMR vaccines
While measles can be deadly, it is also preventable with two doses of the MMR vaccination the only protection against measles. Northern Sound GP, Dr Illona Duffy, says the vaccine is safe and free.
