People in Co Monaghan are paying the least amount for a GP appointment compared to others across the country.
An Irish Independent nationwide survey of 275 registered GPs has revealed a practice in Co Monaghan was €30 for a doctor appointment. The investigation revealed that people in Dublin paid up to €50 more than those in the Farney county.
The survey revealed there is a significant gap in what patients pay for a standard GP appointment depending on where they live. Co Cavan was the only part of the country with every GP charging less than €60 with an average range of between €50 and €55.
This special investigation shows throughout the country prices varied with one GP in Sligo sets consultation fees at €45, a GP in Kerry charges €40 and a GP in Donegal charges €35. The north-west of the country is the only region with no GP surveyed charging €70 plus for a consultation.
