Coláiste Oiriall students in Co Monaghan have been announced among the winners of this year's Poetry Aloud competition. The competition challenges second-level students across the country to perform a prescribed poem from memory. Aoibhinn Ní Chraobhín from Coláiste Oiriall in Monaghan was named as the runner-up of the competition's senior category.
The 17-year-old was presented with a Poetry Aloud certificate from the Director of the NLI, Dr Audrey Whitty. Speaking to Northern Sound, Aoibhinn said that she has previously attended speech and drama classes and always had a massive interest in poetry. She descried the overall experience as "unreal" adding that it was great to see so many students come together to celebrate the art of poetry.
