A Monaghan student is one of five winners who secured a third level bursary programme under Kirby Group Engineering.
This is the second year of the initiative, which provides exciting opportunities for women to gain experience in the wider engineering
industry.
Among the recipients is Leah McElvaney from Monaghan, a second year Mechanical Engineering student at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo.
Speaking to Northern Sound, 20-year-old Leah said that her passion for engineering stemmed from school and her passion for subjects like maths, science and technical graphics.
Work experience at local companies like Combi-Lift gave her first-hand experience which enhanced her passion for the profession even further.
As a result, Leah is encouraging other young girls to pursue engineering as career, regardless of the stereotypes that it is a male dominated field:
