A Monaghan man has received a Naughton Scholarship in Trinity College Dublin at a special ceremony over the weekend.
Matthew Mc Vicar, who is studying mechanical engineering at Queen’s University Belfast is the second student in as many years from St Macartan's College in Monaghan to win the prestigious award following the success of Michal Nacklicki last year.
The Naughton Scholarship is awarded to students of exceptional ability who are continuing their studies in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny was the guest of honour at the ceremony.
The Monaghan School took to social media to say that last Saturday was a proud day for the school and this was great recognition for Matthew, his family, and teachers.
