Monaghan is struggling to meet the recommended ratio for general practitioners out of its total population.
It comes following new research from the Irish College of GPs.
The recommended ratio from the World Health Organisation for a satisfactory level of health care is 100 GPs per 100,000 in the population.
Monaghan is the county with the second lowest level in the country, at 57 GPs per 100,000 people.
Cavan is close to reaching the recommended ratio, standing at 73 general practioners per 100,000 of the population.
However, the research revealed that Monaghan fared best across the country in fractional increases of GP numbers between 2022 and 2023, with a 15.6 per cent improvement.
Just Galway and Waterford achieved over 100 per 100,000 last year.
