Monaghan County Council is spearheading a new project through the purchase of the first electric sweeper in the country.
The council has purchased a state-of-the-art road sweeper called the 'Maxvac' machine.
This new machine has a multi-function facility that includes a blower and litter picker among other devices.
There is an eight-hour battery running capacity and the appliance is considered a cleaner, and greener response to cleaning streets.
The project was launched recently at the Civic Offices in Carrickmacross by members of the council, machine suppliers and operators, as well as Carrickmacross Tidy Towns.
