The Minister for Education has confirmed that works are currently underway to set up a new special school in County Monaghan.
Last month, Minister Norma Foley announced that five new special schools will be established, two in County Dublin and one each in counties Monaghan, Cork, and Tipperary.
The school will provide for children and young people with complex special education needs from 4 years up to 18 years of age.
The exact location and size of the new special school in Monaghan is currently being worked through and is expected to open in time for the 2025/26 academic year.
Parents and families looking to apply for admission to the new special school will be supported and guided by the National Council for Special Education at local level.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound News, Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher, said parents will be kept up to date on developments.
