A Monaghan Senator says Government must take a "targeted approach" to the cost of living crisis.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show earlier today, Robbie Gallagher said he has "no doubt" people are experiencing tough times in relation to increasing inflation costs.
The Fianna Fáil representative claims the Government has moved already since the last budget, stating that almost €2.5 billion euro has been allocated to try alleviate cost of living pressures.
While there are calls for Government to "act now," Taoiseach Micheál Martin says the Summer Economic Statement is up next - but doesn't see any measures taking effect until Budget 2023.
Senator Gallagher says the Summer Economic Statement will show what resources are available, adding that a temporary "sticky plaster" won't help the situation, instead it will take "major surgery" to rectify.
