A Monaghan Senator has called for the government to initiate an awareness campaign to encourage shoppers to support local businesses and service providers to support Green Friday.
Green Friday is an initiative that highlights the significance of supporting local businesses and services providers, either online or in-person, to boost Ireland's local economy.
Senator Robbie Gallagher says it is estimated that four out of 10 shoppers plan to complete their Christmas gifts and non-food shopping during Black Friday sales this weekend. The initiative highlights the huge importance of supporting local businesses and service providers both online and in person to boost the local economy.
Approximately €5 billion will be spent annually and much of this will go to businesses abroad rather than locally. Senator Gallagher says every €1 spent locally is worth €4 to the local economy and he is calling on people to shop locally to support local businesses and local jobs.
