Monaghan has seen a sharp increase in house prices year-on-year, according to a Daft.ie report for the third quarter of the year.

However, Cavan has seen a decrease in house prices in the same period.

The Shannonside region is the least expensive place in the country to buy a home.

Leitrim is the least expensive county in which to buy a home, with an average list price of just under €128,000.

Roscommon and Leitrim are the second and third least expensive respectively, with the average home in Roscommon costing close to €143,000 and the average home in Longford costing around €145,200 despite a 6.6% year-on-year increase.

In the Northern Sound region, Cavan is the sixth least expensive county, with prices falling 0.9% year-on-year to just over €153,000.

However, Monaghan has seen a 4.4 percent yearly increase in house prices, which has increased the average list price to around €179,700.

Economist Ronan Lyons from Daft.ie says it’s unusual for Cavan and Monaghan’s housing market to be at odds:
