The N2 which goes through a section of Co Monaghan is Ireland's second most dangerous road according to recent figures.
According to data obtained by the Irish Daily Star, the N2, which goes from Finglas in Co Dublin, through Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan and up to the border near Aughnacloy in Co Tyrone is the country's second most dangerous road with 16 fatal collisions recorded in the last five years.
Elsewhere, the N25 from Cork to Rosslare Europort via Waterford City had the highest fatality rate with 22 fatal crashes.
Speaking in relation to the figures, the AA's Paddy Comyn said there is no good news when it comes to road deaths while they still occur.
He added that a more "positive trend" has developed over recent years due to the "excellent work" by An Garda Siochana but highlighted safety issues such as drink and drug driving still remain a concern.
