Monaghan restauranteur not giving up on a safe reopening this summer

A Monaghan restauranteur says he hasn't given up on reopening this summer.

Representatives from the hospitality industry are meeting with senior government officials this afternoon in a bid to reopen the sector.

The Tanaiste says the EU Digital Covid Cert can be used for indoor dining as proof of vaccination.

Leo Varadkar has indicated it can only happen if the hospitality sector is willing to check if customers have been fully vaccinated or are immune.

Kevin Redmond from Andy's Bar and Restaurant maintains that the idea of staff checking a customer's vaccination status isn't practical.

But he's hopeful that a workable solution will be found.
