Pubs are going to go out of business because of this energy crisis.
That's according to Monaghan chairman of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, Raymond Aughey who was speaking to Northern Sound this afternoon.
He said members were experiencing an energy crisis like never before and some businesses were struggling to operate.
Mr Aughey said that from the first of September the unit night rate at his premises increased by 40c while the day rate rose to 84c.
He added that was a 600% increase in rate price and warned that pubs would not be able to sustain that.
"This crisis has really come out of the blue," said Mr Aughey.
"My members have said to me that the price of wind hasn't gone up.
"So how can these companies generate huge profits under circumstances like this?
"Wind costs, solar costs - they are all static costs and it's galling for our members to see increases like what they are seeing now."
