People across Castleblayney and Carrickmacross have been urged to take part in an online consultation that will shape water quality objectives.
Tonight's event, held online from 7pm, will gather the public's views on what should be in the final version of the River Basin Management Plan for 2022-2027.
It comes amid warnings at yesterday's Monaghan County Council meeting about the water quality of Lough Muckno, which was been deemed to be "poor" in a recent EPA report.
A similar event for north Monaghan will take place on Thursday and more information on the public consultations can be found on catchments.ie.
Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Aidan Campbell, says water quality in Lough Muckno "is a bone of contention".
