A Monaghan principal says the idea of children being turned away for not wearing a mask was "distressing" for parents.
The comments were made by Minister Norma Foley, as students from 3rd class are now required to wear a face-covering in indoor settings.
Sinead Doherty from St Michael's National School in Corcaghan said she was disappointed there wasn't more consultation with schools on the measures, and that they weren't given a chance to communicate them properly with parents.
She told Shannonside Northern Sound that her focus today was on reassuring parents and students.
