A Monaghan man has been named Chef of the Year at this year’s Staff Canteen Awards.
The Staff Canteen Awards celebrate those who are making a difference in the hospitality sector and Peter McKenna, originally from Monaghan, was announced as the category winner yesterday for his work in the Gannet Restaurant in Glasgow.
Peter is the owner and chef at the restaurant which started to provide meals for impoverished communities in Glasgow during the pandemic.
He was shortlisted alongside Michelin Star chefs such as Tom Kerridge from England, and Alex Greene from Belfast.
Reacting to the news Peter said it was a ‘career highlight’, and he thanking those who voted for him said that it’s a ‘great honour’.
