Organ Donor Awareness Week 2024 is underway all this week and you are being reminded the importance of donor donations.
Running until Saturday, the key campaign message continues to be built around sharing your wishes with your loved ones about organ donation.
This follows the signing of the Human Tissue Bill into law by the President, Michael D. Higgins, at the end of February, which means anyone will be deemed to be organ donors unless they have registered their wish not to donate.
Samantha O'Reilly, a native of Monaghan town donated her kidney to her daughter Ella when Ella was four and a half. Ella overcame cancer when she was just a few months old. Now age 9, Ella is thriving and her mam Samantha is highlighting the importance of organ donation. Ella also appeared earlier today on RTE TV Children's News2Day programme. Samantha says life is very much normal compared to prior to the transplant.
