A Co Monaghan student dazzled the nation last Friday after he performed his latest song, ‘Solas’ live on RTE’s Late Late Show.
Jamie Duffy from Glaslough described his experience as “amazing” added that it was everything he hoped it would be.
Jamie’s composition of his solo piano track titled ‘Solas’ was originally released last year, however with the help of his music label, he pushed it out again recently to the delight of music-lovers including Ryan Tubridy.
‘Solas’ means lights and according to the local musician that’s what he wants this song to portray – light and hope.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Jamie said the feedback he has received since his live performance has been “very reassuring.”
With nearly 30 million streams on social media, Jamie said it’s a great way to open doors but it’s the music which is more important to him.
“I think it’s important in this day and age to find that balance and focus more on the music” he said.
According to Jamie, the track was originally posted online one night and life changed after that. He has been performing the last 13 years and started piano with local teachers in Co Monaghan .
Speaking in relation Glaslough, Jamie said, “Glaslough is beautiful and it has inspired my music for sure, I just think it’s the best place in Ireland and I’m so glad I was born and brought up there.”
Going forward Jamie revealed that he has an album coming out with material already recorded and ready to go, adding that he is very excited for what’s coming down the road.
Although his music career came is something that came to Jamie “out of the blue” he said it’s something that he knows he wants to continue to do, however he will focus on his studies for the time being:
