Members of the Monaghan Municipal District are calling on Minister Norma Foley and the Department of Education to provide more ASD units in Monaghan town.
This issue was brought to the fore by Sinn Fein's Cathy Bennett, Sean Conlon and Brian McKenna.
According to the local representatives, an appropriate intervention from Government on this matter is "overdue."
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Cllr Sean Conlon said that it is "vital" that Minister Foley ensures the provision of more ASD and Early Intervention classes due to the rising concern of local parents.
He added that with a "considerable growth" in children presenting with ASD, it is imperative that Minister Foley and local schools react to this "desperate" shortage urgently:
