"Health is at the heart of every GAA club." That's according to Martin Maguire of Crocus Monaghan who is taking part in a number of initiatives that will coincide with men's health week. To increase awareness and promote the importance of men's health, a wellness morning will take place this Sunday on Father's Day. The event will take place from 10am at Lough Major Ballybay Beach.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Martin Maguire said that this is a cross-parish initiative with all clubs in support of men's health. According to Martin, ill-health doesn't stop at the parish border. As a result, he has encouraged all men and their families across local clubs and communities to come together and increase awareness around men's health:
"It starts on Father's Day morning at 10am. Keep an eye on social media," Martin said, "Bring along you sons, daughters, wife, partner but, come along; it'll be a bit of light-heartedness. It's about raising awareness of men's health. There'll be a wee bit of craic, there'll be light refreshments - tea and coffee - a bit of light exercise so, if you want you can get into the cold water for a dip. What better way to start Father's Day and raise a wee bit of awareness around a very important issue?" he asked.
