Brian said the carers who allowed him to return to his Smithborough home don't get enough recognition.

A Monaghan man left blind after a 2017 road crash says he doesn't know where he'd be without his carer.

Brian Mayclim spent 10 weeks in a coma in ICU and 11 months in Tallaght Hospital after his taxi was hit from behind while stopped at temporary traffic lights at Castleshane.

As well as losing his sight, he also ruptured his bowel, shattered several bones and had to learn to walk again.

The driver of the lorry that caused the multi-vehicle crash was recently handed a driving ban after pleading guilty to careless driving causing serious harm.

Speaking to Northern Sound News, Brian said the carers who allowed him to return to his Smithborough home don't get enough recognition.
