A Monaghan man is raising money to travel to Russia for treatment after being diagnosed with MS.
Christopher McGonnell was diagnosed approximately 14 months ago with the illness at the age of 24.
Despite trying the various types of treatment available in Ireland the disease is progressing and he has made the decision to travel abroad for a Stem Cell procedure that requires a bone marrow transplant.
Due to Covid-19 the date for the treatment was moved from May to September 16th.
Christopher has set up a GoFundMe Page, as well as planning a number of fundraisers:
A Honda 50 Run will be held on Sunday the 23rd of August from Sam's Diner in Monaghan.
McCleary's Londis will host a 'drive thru' breakfast on Saturday August 29th.
A Mountain Climb up Slieve Donard has been arranged for the 6th of September, but owing to Covid restrictions all participants will be responsible for their own transport.
Finaly a truck and tractor run will take place on the 13th of September from Moybridge at 11am.
All details for these events can be found on Facebook.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound he described some of the ways life has changed since his diagnosis:
