A Monaghan man is preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of local mental health charities.
A former psychiatric nurse at St Davnet's, Mickey McKenna was heavily involved in the development of community mental health services and has turned to fundraising since his retirement.
Mickey is climbing the 19,000 foot mountain in aid of Pieta House and Solas Drop in Centre, two mental health charities that have branches in Cavan and Monaghan.
Accompanied by his son Ciaran, Mickey will fly to Africa on Tuesday to begin their adventure.
He says it's been something he's wanted to do for some time.
